PROTECNICA’S EYES
ON THE EASTERN CREEK PRODUCTION CAR PODIUM PRIZE
Protecnica Racing heads to Sydney’s Eastern
Creek Raceway this weekend, upbeat about its chances in round four
of the Shannons Australian Production Car Championship.
Team driver Scott Anderson enters the weekend sixth in the outright
standings, aboard the Elf Lubricants NSW Holden VY SS Commodore, and
is just two points behind Class A leader Drew Russell with the series
approaching the halfway mark.
In just its second weekend on the track, the Elf Lubricants NSW Commodore
showed strong form at Queensland Raceway earlier in the month, finishing
the weekend second in class.
The scene of the battle this weekend is Eastern Creek Raceway, the
team’s home track, and Anderson believes another podium could
be on the cards.
“I reckon we’re in with a good shot for a podium this
weekend,” he said. “The Elf Lubricants New South Wales
Commodore is good out of the corners, with its flat torque curve,
but Drew Russell’s Honda (S2000) is quicker through the corners.
“It will be interesting to see how that pans out, and also with
the Falcon XR6 of David Ryan which was quick in Queensland.
“In the races, we tend to have a bit of a battle with brake
temperature. It’s generally good for about 3 or 4 laps, but
as we get later in the race, it becomes a bit of a struggle. We should
still be in contention for a podium, though.”
The weekend has seen a strong 22 entries for the series’ first
Sydney foray of the year, and Anderson is predicting a competitive
weekend of racing for both the class and outright honours.
“In Class A, we have got Drew Russell in the Honda which has
been quick all year, along with the Falcon XR6 Turbo’s.
Then we’ll have to contend with the cars in Class B and C, which
will be strong as well.“It’ll be a good, fun and competitive
weekend of racing, which is what it’s all about.”
This weekend is the first of two visits the Shannons Australian Production
Car Championship will make to Eastern Creek Raceway. The circuit will
also hold the final of seven rounds of the championship in December.
The cars take to the track for
the first time on Saturday, for practice, qualifying and a six lap
scratch race. On Sunday the Elf Lubricants New South Wales Commodore
will be part of a pair of the series’ popular reverse-class-handicap
grid races, each nine laps in duration.
Entry to the Australian Motor Racing
Series is free on Saturday, with Sunday tickets just $15, and $10
for concession.
