ROUND WIN AN UNEXPECTED
BONUS FOR SUCCESSFUL PROTECNICA WEEKEND
Protecnica
Racing’s Scott Anderson has steered the Elf Lubricants NSW Holden
VY SS Commodore to victories in class and outright competition in
the Shannons Australian Production Car Championship at Eastern Creek
Raceway, the team’s home track.
Anderson entered the day with a
second place finish in the scratch race to his name, as the field
lined up for the first of the first of two reverse-class-handicap-races.
The Elf Lubricants NSW Commodore
quickly cemented itself in second place of the Class A runners. As
the bigger cars cut their way through the Class B and Class C cars,
Anderson soon found himself among the top five outright, with Drew
Russell breathing down his neck all the day.
In the end, Anderson was able to
hold out Russell to claim second place and keep his consistent weekend
on track.
“That was a great battle,”
said Anderson. “I knew if Drew got ahead of me that I wouldn’t
have been able to get it back, so I had to work hard through the traffic
to make sure I kept a gap between myself and Drew.”
The third and final race of the
weekend also saw Anderson settle into second place of the Class A
drivers, between Ryan and Russell. However, the Elf Lubricants NSW
Commodore was delayed by a slower car, allowing Russell to claim the
place.
Anderson crossed the line in third
place after setting the fastest race lap along the way.
“It is a good result for
the weekend,” said Protecnica Racing chief engineer Greg Rigge.
“We’ve been working hard during the weekend to make sure
the brakes were in good condition for the races, and we made a slight
suspension change which all worked well because Scott had some good
pace in the races.”
However, the Falcon of David Ryan
was later excluded from today’s races due to a technical infringement.
This elevated Anderson to the win in race two and second place in
race three. It also moves the team to the weekend win in Class A,
and a share of the outright win for the weekend.
“It is a bit of a surprise
to leave the weekend with the round win,” Anderson admitted.
“We would have walked away from here pretty happy with the podium
finish, but to end up with the class win and a share of the overall
round win is an added bonus.”
Anderson now closes to within two
points of Class A points leader Drew Russell, and vaults from fifth
to third in the outright standings, 44 points behind leader Colin
Osborne.
The next round of the 2005 Shannons Australian Production Car Championship
is at Phillip Island Raceway, Victoria, on August 20-21.
