MEDIA RELEASE- For Immediate
Release, November 5
ALAJAJIAN’S QUALIFYING PAIR OF
HIGH FIVE’S
Protecnica Racing’s Chris
Alajajian will start both races in the penultimate round of the Kumho
Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS Gold Star from
fifth on the grid.
The races will be held at
Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, where Australian Formula 3 is the
primary support category for the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Australia.
Alajajian, 19, started the day
looking to make up for lost time from Friday’s practice sessions,
when old tyres limited the meaningful setup work he and the team could
undertake on the Jack Hillermans Smash Dallara F304 Renault-Sodemo.
In the first qualifying session,
the team showed that despite the less than ideal build-up, they could
still be a force to be reckoned with.
With a time of 1:24.7722 around
the 3.93km circuit, Sydneysider Alajajian secured fifth place on the
grid for the opening race.
“The car felt really good,”
said Alajajian after the first qualifying session. “It is probably
the best the car has ever been.
“We just unfortunately got
stuck in traffic and I didn’t get a clear lap out there. I was
confident of getting a good result, but we just didn’t get a
chance to do so.”
Track conditions had changed for
the second session, with Alajajian recording a 1:26.2774, again the
fifth fastest time.
Now, he and the Protecnica Racing
team turn their attention to Sunday’s pair of thirteen lap races.
“We are moving forwards not
backwards,” said Alajajian, who currently sits third in the
championship. “The car was handling very well in the first session;
we made some changes from the practice session yesterday and it was
great.
“In the second session, the
different conditions didn’t quite suit the car but our time
was still good enough to get us up near the front.
“All of the work the Protecnica
guys have put into the car is paying off. They have made sure I’ve
got a good car this weekend and today when we put decent tyres on
for the first time, the car was good almost straight away.
“The races are going to be
a lot different to qualifying, but we’ll be giving it our best
shot.”
It’s an early start for Alajajian
and the Formula 3 field. Race one will be at 9:20am and the final
race of the weekend will kick off at 12:00pm, immediately before the
A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Australia races.
