PROTECNICA RACING’S GALLANT OVERNIGHT EFFORTS COME TO NOUGHT
A mammoth
recovery effort has ended in frustration for Protecnica Racing and Chris
Alajajian in Round 6 of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Mount Panorama,
Bathurst.
An incident late in
Race 1 sprung the team into action to completely rebuild the rear end
of the Jack Hillermans Smash / Elf Lubricants Commodore. Parts were brought
to the circuit from Sydney, and after an all-night effort in conjunction
with the Smash Repair Team, the car made it back on-track today for Race
2.
From 28th on the grid,
Alajajian made impressive progress to be running in 15th place on Lap
3, before making light contact with the wall at Forrests Elbow which eliminated
him from the race.
“The guys and
the Smash Repair Team did a sensational job to give me a car to race today,”
said Alajajian, 19. “There was a lot of damage, but they worked
really hard all night and pulled it off.
“The car was
good all things considered, and I was able to move up the order fairly
quickly. I slowly started to catch Grant Denyer and Jay Verdnik, who were
having a bit of a battle.
“Denyer looked
down the inside of Verdnik at Forrests Elbow, but he had to get out of
it and slowed, which forced me wide. On the exit, I just understeered
wide and tagged the wall.”
Despite showing increased
competitiveness as the weekend wore on, it was an outing to forget for
the Sydneysiders.
“It wasn’t
a good weekend for us at all,” said Alajajian. “We started
off fairly conservatively in practice and our pace improved considerably.
“From the Cutting
to Forrests Elbow I was catching a lot of cars, but we lacked a bit of
power, so they’d pull away on the straights."
The team now turn their
attention to the final round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, which
will be held at Phillip Island Raceway in Victoria on December 8-10.
“Full credit
goes to our guys along with a massive thanks to the Smash Repair Team,
to turn the car around overnight,” said Protecnica Racing team owner
Scott Anderson.
“We moved up
the order in terms of pace from where we started, and in Race 2 Chris
was making good ground, but it didn’t go our way ultimately.”
Protecnica Racing thanks
the ongoing support of Jack Hillermans Smash, Elf Lubricants and Nudie
Juices.
