CHRIS ALAJAJIAN JOINS FORCES WITH INSIGHT F3
Sydney-based young gun Chris Alajajian will team up
with 2005 Championship winning squad insight F3 in the 2006 Kumho
Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS Gold Star.
The move will see the Jack Hillermans Smash Renault-Sodemo
Dallara F304 prepared by the Sydney based team which took Aaron Caratti
to the coveted Gold Star in 2005.
It reunites the 19-year old Alajajian with insight F3 owner David
Borg, for whom Alajajian raced with briefly across late 2004 and early
2005.
Kicking off what was a successful partnership, Alajajian scored a
pair of podiums in the 2004 Lexmark Indy 300 Formula 3 support races
in his first round with the team.
Remaining with the squad in 2005, Alajajian scored a win in the opening
race of the season at Wakefield Park to grab a share of the championship
lead.
Further podiums followed at the Australian Grand Prix support races
and at the second round of the series at Mallala Raceway, where his
association with the team ended.
“I’m looking forward to it, they are a great team,”
said Alajajian, “and I know that when I’ve worked with
David in the past, he has been good to work with.
“The results they achieved last year with good pace everywhere
and consistency, and winning the championship, shows they know what
they are doing.”
If 2005 is any indication, the combination of Alajajian and insight
F3 will head into the season as one of the combinations to beat.
Alajajian scored two race wins, a series-high seven fastest laps and
twelve podium finishes en-route to third in the championship, while
the Borg owned squad took the title and 9 race wins.
“We had some great results in F3 last year,” said Alajajian.
“Throughout the year, we achieved a lot, both with Borgie early
in the year and with Protecnica in the second half, it was just a
shame we had some unlucky weekends.
“This year, we go into the series with those experiences - good
and bad - behind us, and it will hopefully help do well this year.”
The 2006 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS
Gold Star commences next weekend, March 3-5, at Wakefield Park Raceway
in Goulburn.
Chris Alajajian thanks the ongoing support of Jack Hillermans Smash,
Subaru Australia, Elf Oil, Scuderia Veloce Motors, Nudie, Workflow
Systems, Bilstein, Moody Kiddell & Partners, Travel Café,
Heasman Steering and Disc Brakes Australia.
