MORE ALBERT PARK MISFORTUNE FOR ALAJAJIAN
It’s a new month,
but the bad luck that has haunted Chris Alajajian in recent times
remains, with another problem outside his control preventing the youngster
from mounting a challenge in the third Dodo F3 support race at the
Fosters Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
With the broken driveshaft that
kept Alajajian off the grid in Friday’s Race 2 replaced, the
Sydneysider went into this afternoon’s third race looking to
salvage something from a frustrating weekend.
Instead, it was more of the same,
and Alajajian now has an unwanted statistic of three races and no
race finishes, each due to problems outside of his control.
An ECU problem ended Alajajian’s
Race 3 before it even began. It is believed to be the result of the
incident which ended Alajajian’s run in Thursday’s opening
race, when another competitor rejoining the racetrack made contact
with the Jack Hillermans Smash Dallara F304.
The problem saw the Renault-Sodemo
powerplant running on three cylinders, as opposed to the regular four.
“It’s extremely frustrating,”
said Alajajian, who finished on the podium in each F3 race at Albert
Park last year.
“With all the problems we
have had this weekend, we haven’t finished a race, but we are
quick enough to have finished each race on the podium.
“Today, I was just looking
forward to getting out there and racing after the problems yesterday.
“I got out onto the track
for the formation lap and it was only running on three cylinders.
So we came into the pits to have a look at it but there isn’t
much we could do about it.
“Just now, after the race,
we have tried another ECU on the car and it’s running on four
cylinders again.
“We’ll put a replacement
in the car and see how we go tomorrow. Hopefully we don’t have
any problems and can finish the race.”
The final Dodo F3 support race
will take place tomorrow, Sunday, morning at 9:50am. Alajajian will
start the race from 23rd on the grid.
