ALAJAJIAN LOOKING TO START THE YEAR ON A STRONG NOTE
AT WAKEFIELD PARK
It’s a new season, a new team and a fresh start
for Chris Alajajian, whose 2006 motorsport campaign kicks off at Wakefield
Park this weekend, March 3-5.
The Sydney resident is looking
to start his season on a strong note, in the opening round of the
Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS Gold Star.
“I have been waiting impatiently
to get back into a car, and this weekend I finally get the chance
to do so,” enthused Alajajian, who finished third in the 2005
Australian Formula 3 Championship.
“In the off-season, I’ve
been working hard to stay fit and make sure I’m ready for this
year. There is a lot riding on this year, so we need to have the best
start possible, and set ourselves up well for the rest of it.”
Now working with insight F3 for
his 2006 Formula 3 tilt, Alajajian has his sights set on a strong
opening round.
“Obviously we will go there
very keen on winning, and I’ll certainly be giving my best behind
the wheel,” he said.
“After a bit of bad luck
last year, I want to turn over a new leaf, and have a fresh start.
“I know we can do a good
job - with the results I had last year and also with the success insight
had - so I will be driving smart, looking to stay out of trouble and
not do anything silly.
“You don’t know what
to expect going into a race meeting, because anything can happen in
motorsport.
“We are going to take it
as it comes, and hopefully it will go well.”
The Goulburn circuit was the scene
of a number of Alajajian’s motorsport achievements.
In 2004, it was where he sealed
the Australian Production Car Championship title, becoming the youngest
driver to win an Australian national championship.
A little over twelve months ago,
it was the venue of his first Formula 3 race win, in the opening round
of the 2005 F3 season.
“Wakefield Park is a circuit
where you need to be very aggressive,” Alajajian says of the
2.2km circuit.
“It’s a narrow and
twisty track, which makes it hard to overtake. The corners keep coming
at you in quick succession, so you need to be very alert of the road
infront of you in order to be fast.”
The opening round of the 2006 Kumho
Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS Gold Star commences
with practice on Friday before qualifying on Saturday and a pair of
races on Sunday.
Chris Alajajian thanks the ongoing
support of Jack Hillermans Smash, Subaru Australia, Elf Oil, Scuderia
Veloce Motors, Nudie, Workflow Systems, Bilstein, Moody Kiddell &
Partners, Travel Café, Heasman Steering, Disc Brakes Australia.
